Notice-to-payment crosswalk
Document workspaceBenefit statement summary for a UK tenancy application
A benefit notice and a payment event answer different questions, so a useful summary keeps their periods, dates and statuses visible instead of treating them as interchangeable.

Short answer
Start with the recipient's stated question and list each relevant notice with its issue date, covered period, named amount and current status. Create separate rows for payments actually received and link them only where the dates and references support the relationship. Keep future, conditional or changed items pending, flag discrepancies and limit the summary to fields needed for the tenancy application request.

Working checklist
Separate notices from receipt events
Inventory notices, applicant controlled account records and payment records in separate lanes. For each notice, capture only the relevant stated period, amount label and status. For each receipt, use the actual date and source shown. A notice can describe an award or expected schedule without proving that every listed payment reached the applicant.
Reconcile the lanes using dates and references that genuinely correspond. Mark matches, unmatched notices, unmatched receipts and changed items. Do not force a match because amounts look similar, and do not erase a later correction. The discrepancy queue is part of the summary because it tells the applicant which line needs checking before assembly.

Working checklist
Reconcile the table, note and selected files
Compare every table row with its source, checking dates, state labels, amount labels and period boundaries. Confirm that a corrected notice has not been combined with an older version and that no receipt appears twice. Open the selected files and ensure the filenames reveal function and period without exposing private account or claim references.
Keep the package in a prepared state until the applicant chooses to share it. RentFiles allows the applicant to fill checked details before deciding whether to pay for a structured PDF. It does not verify benefit status, calculate entitlement, send documents or influence the tenancy decision made by an agent or landlord.

Action plan
Assemble a period table with explicit states
Use columns for source key, fact type, covered period, event date, stated amount and state. Helpful factual states include stated in notice, received, changed, pending and unresolved. Define the labels in the summary so a reader does not assume that stated means paid or that pending means guaranteed.
Write a concise context note after the table is reconciled. Name the requested period, identify which rows show completed receipts and point out any unresolved discrepancy without adding a personal explanation that is not needed. Keep calculations visible and based only on selected rows when the recipient asks for a total or period summary.

Useful context
Give the summary one narrow job
Copy the exact benefit or income question from the application source. Decide whether the requested fact concerns a notice, a current stated award, a completed payment or a period total. These are not interchangeable. The summary should help a reader locate the answer in applicant controlled records without making an eligibility judgement or predicting what will happen next.
Give each source a neutral key and record its visible title, issue date and covered period. Avoid copying claim identifiers or other sensitive references into working labels. If the recipient did not state a period or format, keep those fields unresolved and ask rather than choosing a broad history that reveals more than the question requires.

Keep in view
Review every selected field against the purpose
Benefit records may expose account identifiers, health or household context, deductions and unrelated claim history. Inspect the exact pages or fields proposed for use. Preserve originals and ask before altering a requested record. When a narrower applicant written summary may answer the question, label it clearly and ask whether the recipient accepts it.
The ICO source attached to this page supports limiting personal information to the recipient's stated purpose. It does not establish which benefit record is required, what a recipient must accept or how entitlement works. Keep those questions outside the summary and direct them to the recipient or a suitable authoritative service when needed.
Keep personal information relevant to the recipient's stated purpose and avoid adding sensitive material that was not requested.

Questions
Common questions
Clear answers for the decisions people usually pause on.
Does a benefit notice prove that a payment was received?
Not by itself. Keep the notice statement and actual receipt event in separate lanes, linking them only when applicant controlled records support the relationship.
How should a future benefit payment appear in the summary?
Keep it pending or stated according to the source, separate from completed receipts. Do not present an expected event as money already received.
What if a later notice changes an earlier benefit amount?
Keep both versions in the source ledger, mark which period each covers and show the changed state. Do not silently overwrite the earlier record.
Should the whole benefit statement be attached to the application?
Follow the recipient's request, inspect relevance and ask before altering the requested record or offering a narrower summary. This guide does not prescribe a universal file set.
Does RentFiles assess benefit statements or eligibility?
No. RentFiles structures applicant entered information into an application PDF. It does not verify claims, calculate entitlement or determine the application result.
