Who this is for

The ratio

Rent share = monthly rent divided by monthly take-home income, multiplied by 100. Rent entered weekly is multiplied by 52 and divided by 12; fortnightly rent is multiplied by 26 and divided by 12.

Worked example

Illustrative scenario

Rent of 600 per week is 2,600 per budgeting month. Dividing by monthly take-home income of 6,500 gives 40%. The ratio describes those two inputs only.

Reference percentages are arithmetic

The 25%, 30% and 35% reference rows multiply the income you entered by that share. They are comparisons, not affordability limits, acceptance criteria or recommendations.

Income evidence and a recipient's assessment

The result excludes expenses, tax, debt, household needs and future changes. An agency may use gross income, evidence from several periods or its own criteria. Variable or self-employed income needs its own explanation; the calculator does not verify documents or predict approval.

Frequently asked questions

Does the result decide my application or legal position?

No. It reports scoped arithmetic or source guidance. Your agreement, the recipient's assessment and applicable exceptions remain separate.

Are my entered figures sent with analytics?

The calculation runs in your browser. If you allow analytics, pseudonymous usage events contain the tool, market and an ephemeral attempt ID, not your amounts, documents or individual result.
